Cerne Abbas
Cerne Abbas is a village and former market town in Dorset, 7 miles from Dorchester.
The parish church is mainly 15th century, but contains 14th century paintings and a Jacobean pulpit.
Remains of the Benedictine abbey, founded in 987, include a hall, a gatehouse and a tithe barn.
St. Augustine`s Well is situated in the churchyard.
The Cerne Giant is a 180 foot giant figure, very obviously male, cut into the chalk on a hillside. His age is uncertain, but he is probably Romano-British.
