Carmarthen

Carmarthen is a busy market town in South Wales, on the River Towy and 22 miles from Swansea. Its Welsh name is Caerfyrddin.

Traditionally, it is "Merlin`s town". being said to be the birthplace of legendary wizard Myrddin (Merlin).

Carmarthen was the site of the most Westerly Roman fort in Britain (Maridunum), and there are remnants of an amphitheatre.

Some of the mediaeval Carmarthen Castle survives.

The Black Book of Carmarthen, the oldest known Welsh manuscript, was written at Carmarthen Priory. It contains some of Merlin`s prophecies.
