Bootle
Bootle is a town on Merseyside, formerly in Lancashire. It is now virtually a suburb of Liverpool.
There has been a settlement here since the 7th century, thanks to the supply of soft spring water.
In the early 19th century it was a fashionable resort, with mansions and villas, but these were demolished to make way for docks.
Bootle became the headquarters of the Post Office Giro Bank in the 1970s.
