Birdoswald
Birdoswald is a site in Cumbria, 1 mile from Gilsland.
It is a frequently visited and very well preserved part of Hadrian`s Wall.
A Roman fort (Camboglanna) was constructed here, to guard the bridge over the River Irthing. Remains of walls and a gate are visible.
Birdoswald is in the care of English Heritage.
