Beamish
Beamish is a village in County Durham, 2 miles from Stanley.
It is best known for the award winning open air museum, itself known s Beamish, telling the social history of the North of England.
The museum covers a wide area, and is in a number of parts.
There is a town, constructed from buildings in the area, including various shops and a Freemasons` Hall.
In addition there is a Home Farm with animals and agricultural bygones; a pit village; and a big house with an early trackway.
Steam trains run on a short line from a reconstructed station, and period trams and buses take visitors between the different parts of the museum.
