Battlesbridge
Battlesbridge is a village in Essex, at the head of the long tidal estuary of the River Crouch and 2 miles from Wickford.
It is often assumed that the name refers to the crucial Battle of Ashingdon, fought a few miles away. Actually, though, it is named after the Bataille family, landowners in the Middle Ages.
Today, most of the buildings have been pressed into service to form a celebrated antiques centre, which features over eighty dealers.
Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby is available to lead Guided Walks around Battlesbridge for groups.
