The large parish church is partly 13th century.

The Avon is crossed by a five arched bridge.

Amesbury Abbey is mostly 19th century, and John Gay wrote "The Beggar`s Opera" here.

Queen Guinevere sought refuge at "the holy house at Amesbury", according to Arthurian legend.

Eleanor of Provence died here.

The Amesbury Archer was discovered here, having received a rich burial about the time of the building of nearby Stonehenge.

There are several army camps nearby.
