Alum Bay

Alum Bay is a place in the far West of the Isle of Wight, 1 mile from Totland.

It is best known for the astonishing variety of colours of sand, which make for wonderful souvenirs.

The Needles, the series of chalk stacks that form the Westernmost point of the island, can be seen from Alum Bay.

The Needles Pleasure Park overlooks the Needles and the Solent, and has a selection of rides and retail outlets.

From here a chair lift goes down to the beach.

Marconi transmitted the first wireless messages from here to a tugboat that was moored in the bay.
