Alloway
Alloway is a village in Strathclyde in Scotland, 2 miles from Ayr, of which it is now effectively a suburb.
It is famous as the birthplace of Robert Burns in 1759.
The cottage where Burns was born has a museum next door, and the Land o`Burns attraction gives an idea of the historical background of Ayrshire in the 18th century.
The Burns Monument is designed as a neo-Grecian temple, and the village also contains the 15th century Brig o`Doon and the roofless Auld Kirk, both of which were settings for "Tam o`Shanter".
Burns` father is buried at the Auld Kirk, and Burns himself was baptised there.
