Whitby (A Coach Trip in Whitby)
“Whitby” is a Coach Trip devised and led by Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours, the well known Blue Badge Guide.
These trips are an enjoyable way of soaking up some Local History.
Whitby is a charming and historic seaport and seaside resort on the North Yorkshire coast, which has been popular with visitors for many years.
The coach leaves St. Margarets Bus Station in Leicester City Centre for this excursion at 8am, and is due to return at about 9.30pm.
Colin gives his customary commentary along the way, bringing the fascinating places on the route to life, in a way that makes his trips truly unique.
Then in Whitby he leads a Guided Walk, pointing out many places of interest, including the spectacular ruined Whitby Abbey; the extraordinary St. Mary’s Church perched on the cliff top; the bustling quayside; and the Whalebone on the West Cliff.
In addition, he discusses matters from Whitby’s long history, such as the Synod of Whitby, when the date of Easter was fixed; the Anglo-Saxon poet Caedmon; St. Hilda and St. Wilfrid; the great mariner Captain Cook; and Whitby’s role in Bram Stoker’s Gothic novel “Dracula”.
And, of course, it all takes place in the marvellous sea air.
