Wells (A Coach Trip in Wells)
“Wells” is a Coach Trip devised and led by Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours, the Leicester-based Blue Badge Guide who organises excursions, as well as Guided Walks, throughout the year.
These trips are an enjoyable way of soaking up some Local History.
The coach leaves St. Margarets Bus Station in Leicester at 8am and arrives back about 9.30pm.
Colin will be giving his customary commentary along the way.
Wells is a delightful small cathedral city in Somerset, in the Mendip Hills area, not far from Glastonbury and the Cheddar Gorge.
The cathedral is a particularly magnificent one, with a stunning West Front and enormous scissor-braces which were inserted in the mid 14th century to stop the tower falling down.
This is the cathedral for the diocese headed by the Bishop of Bath and Wells. The large church at Bath is Bath Abbey, not actually a cathedral.
Wells is also a market town. The market, outside the cathedral gateway, draws visitors from around the county.
During the trip, Colin leads a Guided Walk around Wells, pointing out many places of interest, including Wells Cathedral, the Market Place and the Bishops Palace.
