The Wrekin Tour (A Coach Trip in Ironbridge)

"The Wrekin Tour" is one of the many Coach Trips devised and led by the well known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.

These trips are a very enjoyable way of soaking up some Local History.

This is a Sunday afternoon excursion, allowing those who who like to do something else on a Sunday morning (such as going to church, of course) to do so. Also, public transport becomes more reliable as the day progresses.

The tour is around the area dominated by The Wrekin, a prominent hill in Shropshire. Nearby is the Ironbridge area beside the River Severn, which was the cradle of the Industrial Revolution. The Ironbridge Gorge is very beautiful, but would have given a very different impression in the 18th century.

The coach departs from St. Margarets Bus Station in Leicester City Centre at 1pm, and is due back about 8pm.

Colin gives his customary commentary along the way, pointing out places of interest that can be seen from the coach, and giving some background to their history. This is one of the aspects that make Colin`s trips unique.

There is a stop for a couple of hours during the afternoon at Ironbridge, where the actualIron Bridge itself was the first in the world to be made of cast iron, by Abraham Darby III in 1779. This beautiful structure can still be used by pedestrians.

There are restaurants and tea rooms at Ironbridge.
