Mysterious Wiltshire Tour (A Coach Trip in Wiltshire)
The “Mysterious Wiltshire Tour” is a Coach Trip devised and led by the well-known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.
These excursions are an enjoyable way of soaking up some Local History.
Wiltshire is a large county in the South of England, much of which is covered by the chalk downlands of Salisbury Plain, with its enormous number of prehistoric sites, such as Stonehenge, Avebury and Silbury Hill.
The coach departs from St. Margarets Bus Station in Leicester City Centre at 8am, and is expected back about 9.30pm.
Colin gives his usual commentary along the way, bringing to life the fascinating places passed on the tour.
There are three stops, for about an hour each.
Marlborough is a fine market town with an outstanding wide High Street, and is said to be the place where the great wizard Merlin was imprisoned for ever by a young girl who wished to learn his secrets.
Salisbury is a historic cathedral city. Salisbury Cathedral, with its superb spire, is one of the best loved buildings in England, and the Market Place is one of the largest and busiest in England.
Malmesbury is an ancient hilltop town, whose charter is the earliest known in England. The impressive remains of Malmesbury Abbey now function as the parish church.
There is also a short stop at Avebury. Most of the village lies within a breathtaking stone circle.
The whole of Wiltshire retains the air of mystery which it has held for thousands of years.
