Mendips Tour (A Coach Trip in Somerset)
The "Mendips Tour" is one of the Coach Trips devised and led by the well known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.
Colin`s excursions are an enjoyable way of learning some Local History.
The tour is around the lovely Mendip Hills in Somerset and skirting the mysterious Somerset Levels. It is a land, not only of beauty, but of deep rooted legend.
The coach leaves St. Margarets Bus Station in Leicester City Centre at 8am, and returns about 9pm.
Colin gives his usual commentary along the way, pointing out places of interest and telling their story in a way which makes his tours unique.
There are three stops, of about an hour each.
Wells is a tiny cathedral city. Wells Cathedral has a breathtaking West Front and the beautiful moated Bishops Palace is close by.
Cheddar is not only famous for cheese. It is approached by the amazing Cheddar Gorge, which becomes deeper as one nears the village.
Glastonbury has always been a place of timeless spiritual associations, whose story involves King Arthur, Merlin, St. Patrick, Joseph of Arimathea and even Jesus Christ.
And the hills, including Glastonbury Tor, form a fine backdrop to the tour.
