You Can Walk Along Southend Pier Again
After the disastrous fire last year, most of Southend Pier, the longest in the world, is open again for walking or riding on the train.
The fire in October was the fourth in the pier’s history. It destroyed a 130 foot section of the Pier Head, along with the seaward railway station, pub, shops, restaurants, arcade and toilets.
But the rest of the pier was unaffected, and reopened for business around Christmas.
The pier train now runs into a temporary station created near the old Pier Head.
There is a special viewing platform, where the fire damage and ongoing restoration can be seen
