Working in Ipswich
One of the towns where I worked briefly during my long career in cinema management was Ipswich.
It was while I was still an Assistant Manager with the Rank Organisation, and must have been around 1965.
One of the cinemas in Ipswich had been closed for refurbishment, and they had a gala reopening for charity. Several extra members of management were drafted in to help with the organisation.
The film chosen for the reopening starred Norman Wisdom, and he attended the screening, along with another actor Edward Chapman.
I have to say that Norman was one of the nicest people I ever met in show business. After the audience had gone, he made a point of personally thanking each of the staff who had worked on the night, which thrilled a lot of people!
