Women in the Great War
Once again, I went to another fascinating meeting of the Community History Network in Leicester recently.
These meetings are open to anybody with an interest in any aspect of local history, and are held at the Reference Library in Bishop Street.
The network itself is run by Angela Cutting of Leicester City Council.
There is always a speaker, and at this meeting it was a welcome return from our old friend Cynthia Brown.
Cynthia can always be relied upon to give an excellent talk. This time it was "Women in the Great War". From documents of the time, she pieced together a picture of how women coped at the time of this dreadful conflict, and how their own view of their standing in society had irrevocably changed by the time the First World War ended.
This year I am giving the Christmas talk. It will be "The Holly and the Ivy".
