What I Did in Great Wakering
Great Wakering is a village a few miles from Southend, and is notable for having the lowest rainfall in the country.
Back in the seventies, when I was managing the Classic Cinemas at Westcliff, I was on the Southend Police Crime Prevention Panel (and its Youth Sub-committee), and one of our meetings was at Great Wakering.
Many years later, when I had qualified as a Blue Badge Guide, I visited Great Wakering and wrote the text for a suggested walking trail leaflet, for Rochford District Council. To the best of my knowledge, it was never published.
