Warner Txtile Archive Now Housed at Braintree

There is a wonderful textile archive now open in the Essex market town of Braintree.

The Warner Textile Archive is a unique record of the history of textile manufacture and design since the 18th century.

It includes every example of woven and printed fabric created by the Warner company, as well as a collection of examples produced by other companies in this field.

There is also a collection of original artwork created by leading designers and artists commissioned by the company to produce fabric designs for palaces, stately homes, liners and hotels.

This part of the country has a long history of textile production. It was in North Essex that the world-famous Courtauld company got started, at Braintree, Bocking and Halstead.

The Warner Textile Archive is housed in an old school building not far from Braintree Station.

Braintree itself is in the lovely rural county of Essex, a few miles from both Chelmsford and Colchester.
