W. I. Enthralled by Christmas Talk
I recently gave my "Ding Dong Merrily on High" talk to members of Anstey Women`s Institute, at their Christmas meeting.
This is the popular talk which gives the background to everybody`s favourite Christmas carols. Some were written by famous poets, some by famous composers, and a good number were written under unusual circumstances.
Among the prominent people involved were George Frederick Handel; Felix Mendelssohn; Christina Rossetti; Cecil Sharp; Arthur Sullivan; Ralph Vaughan Williams; Isaac Watts; and Charles Wesley.
A newspaper report afterwards commented that the ladies were "enthralled" by the talk, and were able to look at things in a different (but certainly positive) light when later attending carol services.
If you feel that your group would like me to give this talk, do feel free to get in touch.
