Talk on Early Career in Cinemas
I gave a talk recently to the Leicester Hard of Hearing Club, on my early career in cinema management.
Although I am best known today as one of the country`s most experienced Blue Badge Guides, I spent many years managing cinemas and theatres, starting as a Trainee Manager in 1963, twelve days short of my 21st birthday.
The talk is entitled "The Adventures of the Bearded Cinema Manager", and is probably the most popular of all the talks I give to groups. It is particularly enjoyed by people who, like me, are of a certain age.
It gives an idea of what led a young Southend lad into the entertainment business, and how I started out in it. Yes, there was plenty of glamour, but also a lot of long hours and hard work, not to mention quirky ideas!
The talk was given this time at the Church for the Deaf in Welford Road, close to the Tigers rugby ground.
I am very happy to give this talk to any group. Feel free to get in touch.
