Tales of Victorian Animals
The recent meeting of the Community History Network, under the auspices of Leicester City Council, featured a talk by Cynthia Brown.
Cynthia is a long standing friend of the network, and has given lots of talks - even more than I have!
Her subject this time was animals in the Victorian period. Beginning with the startling newspaper headline "Kangaroo Found in Bed with Woman", she led us through stories of animals as pets, as motive power for vehicles, as exhibition pieces in zoos and circuses, and lots more obscure aspects of the uses of animals in the 19h century.
As always, Cynthia`s talk was absolutely fascinating, and I urge you to go and listen if she gives it to a group to which you belong.
The Community History Network meets at the Reference Library in Bishop Street.
