Shelley Winters
Sorry to hear that Shelley Winters has died.
Shelley Winters had a long career on Broadway and in Hollywood, moving from pretty starlet to attractive older woman. She excelled throughout her career.
She was born Shirley Schrift in East St. Louis, Illinois, but was brought up in New York, where her family had when she was a little girl. Her father was a tailor and felt, not unreasonably, that his career would stand more chance of taking off in one of the biggest cities in the world.
After being much acclaimed in films like A Place in the Sun, she became a two-time Oscar winner, with Best Supporting Actress awards for The Diary of Anne Frank and A Patch of Blue.
Later well known films in which she appeared were The Poseidon Adventure and Alfie.
Shelley Winters died of heart failure (having suffered a heart attack in October) on 14th January. She was 85
