Fabulous Portsmouth Made Super Trip
I led another of my popular Coach Trips recently, this time to the fabulous maritime city of "Portsmouth". This time, my wife Anne was able to come with me.
As always, we set out from St. Margarets Bus Station in the heart of Leicester. Moving Southwards, we travelled through the edge of the Chilterns and into Surrey.
On these excursions, there is always a stop on the way, where one can purchase tea, coffee, cakes etc. It is always, however, somewhere with lots of interest in its own right. This time it was the splendid Guildford Cathedral, in its wonderful position on the top of Stag Hill.
From there, we continued Southwards, through the picturesque and heavily wooded Surrey Hills and Forest of Bere, giving wonderful views down into the Devil`s Puchbowl and travelling through the gap in Butser Hill.
A brief stop on the top of Portsdown Hill gave the chance to breathe in some clean air, but the heavy mist stopped me from showing the amazing views over Portsea Island and the Solent.
Once we arrived in Portsmouth, I led the Guided Walk, showing some of the amazing historic sights, including the Royal Dockyard, Portsmouth Cathedral (Anglican), Spice Island and the the iconic Spinnaker Tower.
Anne and I were anxious to get a meal, so walked along the seafront at Southsea, where we found a restaurant by the sea. In my opinion, it was the best fish and chips I had ever tasted in a restaurant.
On the way back, we took a tour of Southsea seafront and then skirted Winchester before making a stop at Rothersthorpe Services (now officially known as Northampton Services).
My Visitors` Book attracted such comments as "our first trip, very enjoyable and informative day, hope to join you again sometime, thanks", "two cathedrals in one day - can`t be bad, the fascinating Guided Walk much appreciated", "another excellent informative trip", "a very enjoyable day, the Guided Walk was very interesting" and "excellent Guided Walk, fish and chips and a windy walk by the sea, lovely!"
If you`ve not been on one of my Coach Trips yet, it really is time you should!
