Exploring Maldon and Rochford
I spent a weekend in Southend recently, and led a couple of Guided Walks in historic Essex towns.
On the Saturday, it was "Maldon and the Hythe", an exploration of this lovely little maritime town at the head of the estuary of the River Blackwater, famous for its sea salt production and its Thames barges.
Then on the Sunday, the walk was "Rochford", the small market town where I was born, Anne Boleyn was courted by Henry VIII, and Henry Bolingbroke (later Henry IV) married Mary de Bohun, who was buried at Leicester.
What a nice weekend.
If you live in Essex, watch out for other walks in the area.
