Excellent Weekend in Manchester
I spent an excellent weekend with my wife Anne in Manchester recently.
We stayed at the opulent Palace Hotel in the City Centre.
On the Friday afternoon, when we arrived, we visited the Manchester Art Gallery, to see an exhibition of work by Grayson Perry, before going to meet our son Robin, who manages a bar in the city, for coffee.
We walked out to the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI), in the building that was the first main line railway terminus in the world. As well as looking round the museum (and the transport museum next door), we had a short ride on a steam train. We also had a quick look at the recreated Roman site at nearby Castlefield.
In the evening, we had a meal at the Hard Rock Cafe.
On the Saturday, we took a train out to Blackburn, and visited Blackburn Cathedral, where Anne had some research to do.
In the evening, we went to a performance of "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" at the Royal Exchange Theatre.
And on the Sunday, we returned home to Leicester.
It was an excellent weekend.
