Excellent Visit to Southend
I was able to spend a day at Southend recently, courtesy of Carol Jolly at the Essex tourism body.
It`s always nice to visit Southend. Not only is it a great town, it`s also my home town, with really special air, acknowledged by Sir John Betjeman, who said that the air is like wine.
And anyway, it`s always great to be beside the sea.
The day started with a buffet and introductory talk at the impressive Holiday Inn at Southend Airport.
Then we all boarded a coach bound for Southend Pier, the longest in the world, and rode on the famous train to the Pier Head.
We had a buffet lunch at the new building at the Pier Head, which has been erected as a multi-purpose entertainment / arts venue.
Then it was back to land via the train, and back to the Holiday Inn by coach.
And I went back to Leicester, feeling thoroughly refreshed.
