Clare Tells of Vista History
There was another meeting of the Community History Network in Leicester recently.
Every two months, Leicester people who are interested in any aspect of Local History gather at the Reference Library in Bishop Street, and there is always a talk by a local speaker. I have myself delivered the talk on a number of occasions.
This time the speaker was Clare Harding, whose talk was on the history of Vista, the organisation which helps blind and partially-sighted people, from 1858 until the present day.
She spoke about the various forms of help available in the past, and of course available now, and also spoke of the fact that in the early days there were rival organisations which eventualy merged.
In the audience as usual was my friend, the eminent local historian Derek Seaton, among whose books is a history of Vista.
Anybody with an interest in Local History is welcome to attend the meetings, which are completely free and well worth supporting.
