Christmas Talk at Luncheon Club
I gave one of my Christmas talks to members of a Luncheon Club recently.
The talk was "The Holly and the Ivy", and I had been asked to deliver it to the Heather Ladies` Luncheon Club, who meet in the restaurant at the excellent Cattows Farm at Heather.
One of a number of talks that I have available for the festive period, "The Holly and the Ivy" looks at Christmas customs, but particularly those customs which have no real connection with Christmas as a religious festival, but which have been added since.
These include Christmas trees, Christmas crackers, mince pies, mistletoe and of course Father Christmas alias Santa Claus himself.
Where do they come from? What is their significance? The talk gives food for thought, and went down well as always at Heather.
